Up until recently, the Austrian Bundesheer dressed very traditionally and their field caps looked like something straight out of Afrikakorps. With the new Anzug 03 ensemble, that all changed and this is the latest winter issue field cap.
The design is rather low-profile and light, these are not thick and furry for standing guard but meant for active business in the cold.
The outer fabric is tightly woven 67/33 poly-cotton to keep the wind from blowing through. The cap is lined with mesh for insulation and has a foldable, fleece-lined flap to cover both ears and the neck. The visor is often folded to a fashionable angle.
The sizes run small, probably due to washing shrinkage. We recommend choosing one size step (1 cm or 1/8") up instead of your usual size. The fit is affected, of course, depending on if you wear the cap with the flap extended or folded most of the time.
Used, still perfectly serviceable, not too faded or anything. The shrinkage may vary between individual caps and the visor is often folded.
