Product details
Product description

Reasonably lightweight, full leather mountain boots, among friends simply known as Alpschuch. High-quality shoemanship, not usually seen with such a low price tag. Used military surplus from the Alpine country.

Features

These black army boots look quite a bit like the Austrian KAZ 03 boots, but they are somewhat lighter. One boot weights c. 920 grams / 2 lbs (43). The larger ones naturally more and the smaller ones less. These are full leather boots without a lining or a membrane, so they breathe very well. Originally designed to be used in the mountains but they also work on flat Earth, too. The soles aren't any stiffer than in our other regular army boots. The Welt-construction enables resoling, which is usually available with a lot more money involved. Speed lacing familiar from hiking boots.

Condition

Used Austrian military surplus. Some have seen less use, some considerably more. However, they are all intact and the soles aren’t worn out either. With proper polishing, you can make them look quite nice. Of course, if you want pristine shoes, buy brand spanking new ones.

Note that army surplus boots don’t usually come with insoles and even if they do, they are usually crappy. Get a pair of good insoles, e.g. from us and you will be happier.

Came with a few grams of dirt stuck in the sole and fell out, which my dogs found interesting to smell. No visible repairs. I always buy size 42 shoes, these boots I also bought in size 42 and fit perfectly while wearing thick socks. Came without laces. Only very light scuffing on the top-front (the toes?) of both boots.

Incredibly impressed with these boots. MIne arrived in what I would consider amazing condition considering they are date stamped 1982! You could tell me they were 4 years old and I would never think that they were made when the Berlin Wall was still in one piece. Should have ordered some of the highly recommended Jalas insoles at the same time, but hey, who doesn't need an excuse to order more stuff from Varusteleka? I wear a US Size 10 and the Euro 44 is a bit too big, but I didn't want to risk the 43 being too small and miss out on owning a pair of these great boots.

Pretty impressive pair of boots. Mine were from 1983, but had light wear. No major gouges or damage. I took acetone to mine to remove the old shoe polish and grime. Then applied many many coats of leather oil and conditioner. They came right back to life. These boots would likely be upwards of 400 dollars today with the build construction characteristics and the quality of leather used inside and out. Thank you Varusteleka!
