We decided to breathe some new life into the traditional Finnish "blood ladle" field cap with this glorious 21st-century iteration: modern polycotton ripstop fabric and Finnish M05 camouflage as well as solid green color options.
A little bit of history
The Finnish "verikauha" (= blood ladle, no one really knows where the name comes from) is as old as Finland itself. This style of caps were first widely issued in the First World War to German and Austro-Hungarian mountain troops. The design was brought to Finland in 1918 by Finnish Jägers returning from training in Germany. From there on it was the go-to field cap design for "White" troops during the Finnish Civil War.
After the Civil War the "verikauha" became the official piece of headwear for Finnish troops. It was used through WW2 up to the 21st century with a number of different variants evolving throughout the decades.
This fabric is a 50/50 cotton/polyester blend, and it weighs 200g/m2.
Camouflage prints are 100% NIR-compliant. If you wish to ensure that the NIR-compliant properties of the camouflage print are not diminished, we recommend being very careful when using common detergents. All-natural stuff without any optic brighteners should be safe.
One-centimetre increments between 55-63 cm (6 7/8" - 7 7/8"), talking head circumference here. The fit is loose enough to allow a few fingers between the cap and head; definitely no need to size up for relaxed wear. For a taut fit one size smaller than usual might come into question.
These are sewn in Poland by Unifeq.
