Product description

Freeze-dried one-meal rations for the Estonian special forces but also superb outdoor food for hiking, hunting, and camping. One portion per bag. 100% natural without preservatives and additives, but plenty of energy, nutrition, and flavor. You can prepare the meal in the bag and eat it from there, saving time and space.

Fill your tummy quickly and easily

Open the bag and pour in hot water in accordance with the info on the bag. Stir well, close the bag, and let it rest for the time given on the bag. You can heat the food also on a small campfire or use the Tactical Foodpack Fire pot fire gel. In extreme circumstances, you can also "enjoy" these cold but cold water increases the resting time. The bag can be closed tightly and it won’t leak.

Long shelf-life without any preservatives

Thanks to freeze-drying, these portions don’t need any flavor-warping preservatives but they still have an 8-year shelf-life.

What the hell is freeze-drying?

Freeze-drying is a clever food-preservation method with a fairly long history. The Indigenous people living in South American Andes discovered two centuries ago that if they take frozen foods higher up in the mountains where the air pressure is lower, the ice crystals start to vaporize. The water content of freeze-dried food is very low, so it requires no preservatives but still has a very long shelf-life. This method was utilized more broadly 50 years ago for storing the food of the American special forces in the Vietnam War.

In modern freeze-drying, the food is first frozen quickly and then the temperature is slowly raised in a vacuum chamber. During this long process, water is removed from food, but the vitamins and nutrients remain. The process complies with the EU requirements and uses no unnecessary additives that would artificially increase the calorific value. Freeze-dried food gives you real energy and nutrition even in the most difficult conditions.

The Veggie Pasta tasted OK. The Beef and potato pot and the Mashed potatoes with bacon were a bit dull and the bacon and the meat both stayed rock hard after the instructed preparation. There is an inedible oxygen absorber inside that is supposed to be removed before adding water, and I don't like that, since these types of food have a good chance of being consumed during emergencies, when cognitive, fine motor and other skills are compromised (one might accidentally swallow the oxygen absorber). There is no water line, but it's no big deal, many of these freeze-dried stuff end up watery with hard bits anyway.

These are pretty tasteless and just too small portions for me so I would need two of them to get close to being full. They also have no lines on the inside to indicate how much water to pour in. (I bought them directly from TF)
