Varusteleka Blanket Anorak

Here’s something awesome for the lovers of traditional bushcraft clothing! This woolen anorak is a clever combination of the ol’ time trapper attire and a modern hiking anorak. It has a large zippered kangaroo pouch, a roomy hood that you can tighten to handle the strongest winds, and a long enough hem. Warm, super comfortable, versatile, and looks fantastic. On top of all this, these are made here in Finland using high-quality Italian fabrics. We’ve tested this in harsh conditions in Finland, and it works very well!

Features

The Blanket Anorak is closely related to our very popular Blanket Shirt. They share the same material and colors, and both were based on the blanket capotes of the trappers and voyageurs of the Old West. However, the anorak has also been influenced by the USN Wet Weather Parka and modern hiking anoraks. The end result is a very cool and practical garment for hiking, hunting, old-time canoeing, and all things bushcraft.

On the front, there is a very spacious zippered kangaroo pouch. It will fit a lot of stuff and keep everything inside, even when you wrestle with bears.

The roomy hood will protect you from the wind and rain, and keep you warm. It is big enough to fit even thicker headgear underneath. For stormy weather, there is a collar and a clever adjustment system that allows you to pull the hood so tight that it will stay on no matter how the winds blow. When you wear the hood down, it forms a thick and tall collar, keeping your neck warm.

The hem doesn’t have the extra long back flap found on Blanket Shirts. Thus, this is better for hiking and canoeing. The hem is still long enough that you won’t show your bare ass when crouching down or bending over. If you love the flap, don’t worry; the Blanket Shirt ain’t going anywhere.

The sleeves are wide, which improves mobility and enables you to wear thick mid-layers without turning into a 1950s sci-fi robot. The cuffs have a button adjustment.

Use

This is an excellent three-season bushcraft garment from the fall to the spring. The wool fabric breathes very well, so you won’t get overheated when you hike through the badlands. With suitable mid-layers, this anorak works very well in very cold winter. The wool fabric won’t turn cold and clammy when wet, so it also works in rainy weather. This garment is also suited for hunting and other silent business because the fabric won’t sound like a bag of chips when you move.

With the help of different mid-layers, you can use this anorak in very versatile conditions. When it is a bit warmer fall day, a Merino T-shirt is enough. When you hike on a colder day, you can put the Särmä Henley Shirt on top of the T-shirt. When you sit in the camp on a cold day, a wool sweater will make your life very pleasant. If there is a very cold wind in the camp, a windstopper fleece is a good alternative for the wool sweater. If it rains in biblical proportions, you can put a rain poncho on top. However, in regular rain, this works very well without one.
